We went for a visit to the Hutong, the old city neighborhood in West Beijing. We arrived at the Hutong neighborhood in rickshaws, to ride through the narrow alleyways.
The old Bell Tower.
Visiting a kindergarten class at the school. They sang and danced for us, and gave us pictures they drew.
A lake and bridge at Prince Gong's Mansion. We sipped Oolong tea (good for losing weight) and Black Lychee tea at one of the tea houses inside the gardens.
A male lion statue stands guard over the Lama Temple. Lamaism was introduced into Tibet from India. The Dalai Lama would worship here before he fled from Tibet to India, and has been living in exile since then. The Panchen Lama died in Beijing in January 1989 at the age of 50, after he came to an uncerstanding with the Chinese authorities.
Much worship and sacred rituals take place at the Lamassery. During our visit, Tibetan monks were chanting and the air was scented with incense.
