Visit to Confucius Temple.  This is where Confucius taught his followers, and thus they spread his teachings and philosophies throughout China.

The Temple of Heaven lies south of the Imperial Palace (Forbidden City).  Built in 1420, the temple served as a place of ceremony and ritual for the Emperors.  Every year at the time of the winter solstice, the emperor came here in a magnificent procession lasting several days, in order to honour the imperial ancestors and to pray to heaven for a good harvest.  The emperor was considered the "Son of Heaven" and he was responsible to heaven.
